Hills and River in Old Hillsborough
Hydroseeding in Hillsborough deals with more relief than most of the Triangle. The town sits at about 614 feet, and right next to it Occoneechee Mountain rises more than 350 feet from the Eno River to an 867-foot summit, the highest point in Orange County. Lots on the slopes around town can be steep enough that a plain seed and mulch spray will not stay put without help.
Slopes that need more than seed
Steep cuts and banks get a bonded fiber matrix or blankets pinned to the slope, with a seed mix that roots deep. Where a slope is too steep to mow, a low-growing or native mix often makes more sense than lawn grass. Our crews can also regrade the top or toe of a slope to slow water before it hits the seeded face.
Life along the Eno
The Eno River runs along Hillsborough, near the old fords used by Native Americans and early settlers, and the town has many old dams, mill sites and bridges on it. The roughly 2-mile Riverwalk greenway follows the river and is part of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Yards and sites that drain to the Eno need silt fence during work and prompt cover after.
Old town, new houses
Founded in 1754, Hillsborough grew from 6,087 people in 2010 to 9,660 in 2020, a 58.7 percent jump. New homes are being built on hillier ground outside the historic core, and those lots often need fine grading and topsoil before seeding.
Old speedway, now trail
The Occoneechee Speedway, one of NASCAR's first tracks in 1949, is now a roughly 3-mile trail on 44 acres. It is a good example of disturbed land that went back to cover. The same thing, on a smaller scale, is what we do on a graded lot.

Hillsborough Questions
My hillside lot is steep. Is hydroseeding enough?
On steep ground we pair it with bonded fiber matrix or blankets so seed and soil stay put.
Should a steep bank be lawn at all?
Often not. A low-mow or native mix is easier to keep and holds the soil well.
Do you work near the Eno River?
Yes, with silt fence during work and quick cover once soil is bare.
Can you regrade the top of a slope so water stops cutting it?
Yes. A small berm or swale at the top often protects the seeded face.
